I Took on a Challenge.

I know it’s been a little while since we last spoke, and aside from the typical work and summer plans getting in the way of posting my usual fashion/food/fitness/random ramblings, something else came up that took up some of my ‘blogging time’.

What came up, you ask? Well, let’s just say I took on a challenge that took me on a fashionable journey to Miami. Well kind of…

“Kendra’s Miami Fashion Challenge”, that is!

Confused? Here’s the lowdown from Kendra Thornton herself!

Kendra

This summer I am so excited to go on a trip just with my husband. We are going to Miami for a romantic escape and we have planned out every detail with the help of a site called gogobot. We discovered the historic Biltmore Estate after reading amazing reviews. It’s one of the most historical and famous places to stay in Miami. As a mother, sometimes my wardrobe isn’t as posh as I would like it to be. Laura’s style has given me new ideas and aligns perfectly with my ideal image.

The Biltmore Estate is located right in the middle of everything we want to do in Miami, but it’s also got some great amenities. For one, the rooms are quite lavish. It was built in 1926 and still features some of the art deco pieces and style of early American decor. Whether I’m going to the pool or just hanging out on the golf course with my husband, I want a chic yet casual ensemble. It could translate into exploring other parts of Miami near the hotel as well since we are definitely going to spend some time at nearby parks. There are a lot of fitness activities at the Biltmore, and a few nights while we’re in Miami I also want to go out with my husband to some of the fancy restaurants and nightclubs!”

So, as you have probably figured out, I was asked to put together some looks for Kendra’s vacation to Miami!

First of all, let me just say how jealous I am of Kendra because the trip sounds fabulous. Too bad I can’t go with her!

After hearing what Kendra is hoping to do while on vacation and the styles she likes, I decided to create 3 daytime looks, 1 workout look, and 2 nighttime looks. A few of the pieces are used in more than one look, which is a must when trying to pack light! I also decided it might be fun for me to create the looks using items from J.Crew, since as you know, I am working there for the summer, but also because I love its classic yet trendy vibe. This made the task even more of a ‘challenge’ as I had less options than if I were to use any brand. However, it allowed me to explore all that J.Crew has to offer, and familiarized me with this season’s styles!

It was definitely not quick and easy to pull together looks for someone I don’t know personally and all from one store (besides the workout ensemble), but I had a ton of fun doing it!

Anyway, I am not one to turn down a (safe) challenge, so I took this one on. I’m excited to share with you the looks I have pieced together, so let’s get to it!

Daytime Look 1 – Pool

This bathing suit perfectly echoes the 1920’s style of the Biltmore Estate, so the rest of this ensemble is comfortable and subdued in order to let the bikini do all the talking!

Daytime Look 2 – Park

Mixing the patterns of this striped tank with these floral embroidered shorts is on trend, but all black & white with a pop of color from the bag adds personality and spunk! Keep the shoes, hat, and shades, and change the shorts, tank, and bag for an easy swap that looks totally fresh and new!

Daytime Look 3 – Out & About

Whether you’re exploring Miami or lounging around by the hotel, you’ll feel relaxed and at ease in this casual yet fun outfit!

Workout Outfit

It’s no secret that Florida heat and humidity is intense, but this outfit will keep you feeling comfortable while looking cute! This white tank is breathable, and the purples & blues are cool tones to trick your mind into thinking the temp is lower than it is. Choose shorts or leggings depending on your workout, and have a different sports bra for each sweat sesh!

Nighttime Look 1

Talk about a hot date! A tank and shorts are perfect for the hot, humid weather, but these strappy heels and awesome accessories make this outfit chic and sassy. If the temperature drops, throw this sleek black blazer over your shoulders and enjoy a night out!

Nighttime Look 2

This lace shift dress is such a bold color, so the accessories are minimal and dark to contrast with as well as showcase such a fabulous dress!

I absolutely love all six looks, and I think they’re perfect not just for Kendra, but for any fashionista who wants to be chic yet comfortable. I also really enjoyed using Polyvore to display and link to these pieces! It was my first time using this awesome site, and I will definitely be using it for more fashion posts in the future. You can check out my page by clicking any of the links above, or the new Polyvore badge in the side bar!

I want to give a big thank you to Kendra for asking me to do this post – I had so much fun! Have the best time in Miami!!!

I have tons of OOTDs to post, as well as some other fun pictures and thoughts to share with you, so stay tuned for your regularly scheduled programming to return in the near future!

In addition, I also have a few other exciting projects (as well as some fun mini vacations with friends!!) coming up in the next few weeks, so I can’t wait to share all of that! Looks like there’s a lot to look forward to 🙂

Have a fabulous weekend!
